WAYS TO DRINK RUM – SIMPLE BUT CHIC RUM RECIPES
THAT PACK A PUNCH WHEREVER YOU ARE
Here at Rosemullion Distillery, on the Helford Passage in Cornwall, we work hard to make our rums as delicious as possible for you to enjoy while you play in 2023. So if you want to improve your work/life balance then below we have outlined some quick, effort-free recipes for you to get the most out of your Rosemullion rum without having to think or do anything much except sit back and relax.
There are so many ways to drink rum, but if you’re not an experienced rum drinker – with a nose for flavour and a bank of rum-cocktail recipes to lean on – we thought it might be fun to have some easy tips and suggestions to ensure you get the best out of your Rosemullion Distillery rum.
Virgin Rum: a neat classic drink
First off the great thing to realise is that the classic way to drink rum needs no introduction, no recipe and no messing. Just pour your measure of Rosemullion rum – whether white, honey, spiced, gold, chocolate, dark, chocolate or navy – straight into a beautiful glass and drink it neat.
But you might prefer to add some ice (bring it in a flask!) or a splash of water to take the edge off the hit a little. The water or ice will make sure that it’s refreshingly cool while at the same time ensuring that the vapours from the alcohol don’t overpower all the subtle flavours that we distillers take so much time and care to produce.
Holy Trinity
Rum lovers who like a classically chic hit tend to opt for the cleanest option out there – rum, lime juice and sugar – shaken with ice. It’s each to their own on the amount of
and ice…but if ever there was a reason for happy experiment, then this is it. Pour. Play! Enjoy. Any of our rums will do the trick.
Rum & Coke (aka Cuba Libre)
Rum and coke is one of the best flavour combinations in the world but is also often mistaken for an entry-level drink. And yet, bear in mind that rum and coke is one of the world’s most popular drink for a convincingly simple reason: it’s a fantastic combination. So one of the important things to ensure is
Everyone has their preferences regarding which brand of cola they opt for, and it’s worth knowing what yours is, but here at Rosemullion, when making rum and coke or Cuba Libre (the same thing but just with lime juice added) we prefer to pair our white rum with the award-winning Fevertree Madagascan Cola. Fevertree’s rich and distinctive blend has been especially designed to enhance the carefully crafted flavours of some of the world’s best rums – like ours.
“A white rum fermented, distilled, and aged in Cornwall,
that is supple and luxurious, with a smooth finish.
The depth of flavour reflects the fermentation and distillation
process that produces an excellent mixing rum.”
To make your rum and coke or Cuba libre there are no set measures as, again, it’s according to taste, but what you want to aim for is being able to taste the rum with a hint of coke as the background flavour, rather than a tiny hint of rum struggling to shine against the big hitter cola. All our rums are 100% single pot distilled rum, aged with a perfect balance of spices to complement the Cornish rum we produce.
For the rum & coke Cuba Libre classic we recommend:
Our spiced rum also works well by replacing the cola with a good quality ginger ale and a squeeze of fresh lime.
HEALTHIER SIMPLE COCKTAIL OPTIONS
Rum and Apple (or Orange) Juice – this is a delicious and refreshing drink all year round which you can easily angle towards a season like strawberries for spring or cinnamon for winter. You can also make this with orange juice and orange slices instead of apple. Take:
Strawberry Mojito – a wonderful and simple way to combine British summertime in a glass.

Goofy chats and beautiful views, together with some of the best drinks in the world, make for happy days and romantic evenings.
