Christmas Spirit is a festive favourite crafted in Cornwall by Rosemullion Distillery.

At our Christmas markets it sells out fast because it does exactly what it says on the label — delivering the flavours and aromas that make Christmas magical. Notes of nutmeg, cloves, candied orange peel, raisins, ginger, and muscovado sugar are combined with a natural colour that may vary slightly from batch to batch. It is best enjoyed neat, slightly chilled, or mixed with ginger ale — particularly spiced-orange varieties.

Our small-batch distillery, founded by us — Andy and Liz Bradbury — is known for combining scientific skill with local ingredients, using Cornish rainwater and our own fermented base alcohol for authentic depth.

Rosemullion Christmas Spirit Affogato Recipe:

Ingredients (per serving):

• 1–2 scoops vanilla ice cream (or gelato)
  • 1 shot (30–40 ml) freshly brewed hot espresso
  • 25–30 ml Christmas Spirit, spiced rum, or another festive liqueur (optional but wonderful)
  • Optional festive toppings:
  – Grated nutmeg
  – Cinnamon
  – Chocolate shavings
  – Orange zest
  – A small gingerbread biscuit

Instructions:

1. Chill the serving glass or bowl: Place a small glass or dessert dish per guest into the freezer for 5–10 minutes. This keeps the ice cream from melting too quickly.
2. Brew the espresso: Make a fresh, strong shot of espresso.
3. Scoop the ice cream: Once the glasses are chilled and the coffee is brewed, add 1–2 generous scoops of good-quality vanilla ice cream (we recommend Roskilly’s or Callestick) to each chilled glass.
4. Pour the Rosemullion Christmas Spirit: Drizzle the festive spirit over the ice cream so it begins to flavour the base.
5. Pour the espresso into individual coffee cups.
6. Serve: Give each guest their glass with the ice cream and Rosemullion Christmas Spirit, along with their espresso cup.
7. Combine: Encourage guests to immediately pour the hot espresso directly onto the ice cream.
8. Garnish & serve: Add a sprinkle of nutmeg, cinnamon, chocolate, or a little orange zest. Serve immediately while the hot and cold elements combine.
